
About Stephan Lally
Stephan A. Lally currently serves as an Deputy Chief of Staff to the Speaker at the New Jersey Assembly Majority Office. In this role, Stephan works directly as the Senior Aide to Speaker Craig J. Coughlin. Working directly for the Speaker, Stephan is responsible for assisting Speaker Coughlin with his day-to-day operations in addition to supporting the Majority Office’s Executive team and Assembly Leadership team respectively.
Additionally, Stephan oversees and manages the Speaker’s legislative appointment process to various State Boards, Commissions, and Task Forces under the Speaker’s authority and promulgated by legislation, statute, or otherwise. Stephan also recently served as a member of the Tuition Aid Grant Study Commission which is charged to make recommendations to reform New Jersey’s Tuition Aid Grant (TAG) program.
Prior to his role in the Assembly Majority Office, Stephan Lally attended Ramapo College, where he served as the youngest and longest-serving President of the University's Student Government Association. As President, Stephan was a prominent voice on the issues of campus food insecurity, as well as education affordability both on campus and throughout the state. Specifically, Stephan played a major role in developing the Ramapo College Food Pantry and Student relief fund, both of which serve as models for the critical issue of college food insecurity nationally. Stephan also served as a Board Member of the New Jersey Higher Education Assistance Authority and was instrumental in the passage of the Hunger-Free Campus Act and the Student Loan Bill of Rights.
